If the scale were larger it might be a problem, but both patterns read as almost solid at distance, and up close they’re such different colors it doesn’t give the “magic eye” effect that a too close scale brings out.

The shirt looks very much like a solid given how light the blue is. You definitely won’t be able to tell it’s gingham from a distance so it works in my book.
